Seeing YouTube double its watch-hour requirement might make an existing creator nervous. Maybe your channel is already monetized but your current watch time is only 4500 or 6000 hours. Do you suddenly need to reach 8000 hours to keep earning? The good news is no YouTube says the new entry requirement will not remove creators who are already in YPP.

What Is YouTube New 8000 Watch Hours Requirement?

Starting February 1 2027 new creators applying for YouTube Partner Program ad and Premium revenue sharing will need 1000 subscribers plus either 8000 qualified watch hours in the last 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days

YPP is YouTube’s monetization program that gives eligible creators access to revenue opportunities such as ads and YouTube Premium revenue sharing.

Will Existing YPP Creators Lose Monetization?

This is the important part: the new 8000-hour entry threshold does not apply to creators who are already in YPP.

Imagine your channel is already monetized and currently has 5000 qualified watch hours. You will not suddenly be asked to reach 8000 hours just to keep your existing YPP status. YouTube specifically says existing members will not lose YPP status or long-form ad monetization simply because they are below the new entry threshold

Existing Creators Still Need to Keep Their Channels Active

That does not mean existing creators can completely forget about YPP requirements.

From February 1 YouTube will consider a channel active if it meets at least one activity measure including 1000 qualified watch hours in 365 days 1 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days or uploading 2 long-form videos or 5 Shorts every 90 days. YouTube also provides an additional window for channels that fall below its activity requirements.

So remember: 8000 hours is an entry requirement; channel activity is a separate rule

Can Ytviews.in Help Creators Prepare for the New YPP Requirements?

For new creators the higher target makes consistent visibility audience building and subscriber growth even more important.

Creators working toward YPP can use promotional platforms such as Ytviews to support channel visibility and subscriber growth while continuing to build the qualified watch hours YouTube officially counts toward eligibility. Promotion should support your content strategy not be treated as a guarantee of YPP approval
