Many creators on YouTube have been paying attention to the latest updates in their monetization features. The major changes announced recently aren’t going into force in September 2026, though. The changes were announced by YouTube on August 10, 2026 and the new terms will come into effect on February 1st, 2027.

What Changed in YouTube’s Monetization Rules?

YouTube is going to modify the requirements for new YouTube Premium creators to qualify for advertising and YouTube Premium revenue-sharing beginning February 1, 2027. New applicants must have either 8,000 qualified watch hours in the last 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. The new entry thresholds will not affect existing creators in YPP, YouTube states. There will be no change in requirements for Fan Funding or Shopping products.

Which Content Can Now Earn Ad Revenue?

Not everything will automatically be eligible for advertising because of the changes. YouTube remains true to its policies on monetization, such as original and authentic content, advertiser-friendly content and reused or repetitive content. They still have to comply with these policies to make money from eligible content.

What Should Gaming Creators Know?

There is no specific rule for gaming creators in September 2026. Games on the channels must adhere to YouTube’s monetization rules, as well as advertiser’s friendly guidelines, though. The takeaway is for creators to stick to content that is truly of value to the viewer, instead of just uploading the same content again and again.

What Should Creators Check Before Uploading?

Content makers should ensure their videos align with the policies of the advertiser-friendly video platform YouTube and its monetization policies. It is also important for shorts creators to know the new 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days benchmark that takes effect on Feb. 1, 2027. The creators with an income below that mark will continue to participate in YPP and Shorts revenue sharing can be re-activated when they again exceed the threshold.

Final Thoughts

No new monetization overhaul for September 2026. The major will introduce changes to the YPP from 1st February 2027 onwards. The most beneficial thing creators can do is get to know the new thresholds as early as possible, continue to create valuable content and watch YouTube Studio or stay connected to Ytviews.in for updates.
