WhatsApp is once again making waves in 2026 because of its breach of privacy, taking center stage, where it questions whether users’ messages are really secure! Despite billions of users engaging in their encrypted conversations, there have been many controversies surrounding it.

Why WhatsApp Privacy is Trending Again

Recently, a case was filed by Brian Y. Shirazi and Nida Samson against WhatsApp for invading private chats. As the platform itself claims that “even WhatsApp can’t read users’ chats,” put a question mark on its encryption promises! The controversy rapidly grabbed the public eye after some tech experts’ criticisms, which further pushed the news into the headlines and social network sites.

Moreover, you can tell that it’s serious when your long-term rival jumps in and seizes the opportunity! While promoting his platform, Elon Musk tweeted, “Use X Chat for messaging and voice/video calls. Comes with this great benefit of actual privacy.”

What is the New Lawsuit About?

The 2026 new class-action lawsuit states against the Meta-owned coparent platform WhatsApp for misleading their users as per the calamity they made that senders and recipients can access messages.

However, the accusers declare that despite end-to-end encryption, third-party contractors, even the company employees, can view their messages. Furthermore, claims have been circulated that users’ texts have probably been stored, analyzed, and recorded within the company, opposing public privacy.

What WhatsApp / Meta Says About It

As soon as the allegations sparked and Musk retweeted a post on X by saying, “ can’t trust WhatsApp,” Meta responded back while denying the rumors. WhatsApp strongly opposed and shut down the controversy by stating them “false and absurd.”

However, this is not the first time that the company has been under scrutiny; they covered up recent allegations by stating that their services were encrypted from end to end using Signal protocol for several years, ensuring that only those involved could read the messages.

How End-to-End Encryption Actually Works

End-to-end encryption is a feature that helps encode and decode, where you send a message, and before sending, it’s locked on your phone. Now, only your receiver has the key to unlock it; the message will transfer through an encrypted gateway to their device, and no one can read it!

Can Anyone Really Read Your Messages?

According to Tech experts, the encryption method ensures the protection of users’ information while sending, but it may expose the data for many reasons. Also, there is a high probability that if encryption backups are disabled, this might pose a potential threat.

Should Users Be Worried?

Currently, the allegations against WhatsApp are pending and unproven. As the privacy experts have shown doubts, there is still no evidence regarding the claims that WhatsApp regularly reads chats of its users.

Final Verdict: Fact or Rumor?

In all this scenario public has various concerns and questions; it is believed by many that WhatsApp encryption technology is highly advanced. It is suggested that the users should enable encryption features until the matter is under legal review.
