People are finding movies in a new way. Trailers, reviews or simply the old-fashioned entertainment media are no longer enough for film fans. The trend is for creators on TikTok to be influencing viewers’ picks for what to watch, what to revisit, and what to discuss more. That influence is coming directly to Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September, in the form of TikTok.

TikTok Is Bringing #FilmTok to TIFF 2026

TikTok is back as the Official Platform Partner of the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival and will serve as the presenting partner for TIFF’s Special Presentations programme. This festival is from September 10, 2026, until September 20, 2026. The 30+ #FilmTok creators are the biggest group of film-centric TikTok creators the platform has brought to TIFF. They will feature premieres and red carpets, cast interviews and festival occasions, providing viewers a behind-the-scenes glimpse from creators they already follow.

Creators Will attend TIFF screenings and answer questions

TikTok creators will be more involved than just creating content from the festival. Creators will co-host post-screening Q&A’s with TIFF programmers as part of the Special Presentations programme.  The announced screenings feature The Julia Set (Tope Babalola), The Stunt Driver (Daniel Baptista), Love of Your Life (Azia Celestino) and All That She Wants (Daniela Manzano). This will enable creators to reach out directly to film makers and audiences and help discussions about films extend beyond the movie theater into TikTok.

Why TikTok Is Investing in Film Fandom

Over the last year, TikTok reports over 12 million Film & TV posts were published worldwide every day. It also discovered that 35% of TikTok users reported that they have been convinced to try a film or series by something seen on the platform. The impact may even endure beyond the original release of the movie. The numbers of viewers who say they’ve been influenced to rewatch an older movie or show by TikTok content are also impressive, with 38% saying they did.Additionally, TikTok reveals that creators can help bring older movies and shows back into the fold as 38 percent of viewers say TikTok content has inspired them to rewatch an older movie or show.

Opportunities for Creators to connect with the Film Industry

TikTok has also gotten involved in the TIFF’s first-ever programme, The Market. TikTok will feature a conversation with Zooey Deschanel and fellow Trash Mountain star Caleb Hearon, plus TikTok’s Jenny Kim on September 12. The discussion will bring to the fore creativity in feature films, freedom of creation and how stories are found/rediscovered in the audience. The film is set to premiere worldwide at TIFF 2026.

Final Thoughts

TikTok’s presence at TIFF is a testament to the growing convergence of film culture and creator culture. TikTok is effectively introducing creators as a crucial link between producers and the modern movie-going audience by bringing them to the screen, red carpet and industry discourse. For film enthusiasts, it’s also the opportunity for some of TIFF’s major moments to transcend Toronto and take on a larger international profile.
