Meta Introduces a Two-Hour Daily Limit for Teen Users
It can be a challenge for parents to get teens to put down their phones. Meta is rolling out tighter restrictions on the amount of time teens can spend on Facebook and Instagram. The changes are the result of a settlement reached in the United States aimed at bolstering measures to protect younger users.

What Is Meta’s New Two-Hour Daily Limit?
A default 2-hour daily limit will be enforced for users under 18 years old on Facebook and Instagram in participating U.S. states and territories if approved by a judge. Time spent scrolling Instagram and Facebook is added up together, so it will count towards the same two hours of time cap. The limit can only be turned off by a parent’s permission, and that may not happen during a teen’s teen years. Direct messaging does not count towards the time limit. The deal also adds Night Mode (from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM) which will be available for teens between these hours, and will restrict them from posting or viewing their Feed, Stories, Explore and Reels. Push notifications will also be muted by default from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on school days, apart from direct messages or account-security and account-safety alerts.
Why Is Meta Introducing This Restriction?
The measures come as part of a pact among a bipartisan team of 51 attorneys general from U.S. states, territories and the District of Columbia. The states said Meta designed Facebook and Instagram to get users to use them for longer than they would otherwise, deceived the public about the dangers to children and breached consumer-protection laws. There were also charges of data being gathered from children under the age of 13 without the consent of their parents. Meta has refused to admit to any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement.

How Could It Affect Instagram and Facebook Creators?
Note that the 2-hour limit is for teen users, NOT for teen creators. But, if you’re a creator who relies on teen audiences, you might not get a lot of time to reach and engage those audiences. Meta has not announced that there will be a separate posting or reach restriction for creators.
How Can Creators Adjust Their Content Strategy?
Using strong hooks, brevity in storytelling and clear calls to action will maximize the use of limited attention. Regular and helpful information can also assist viewers to remember and interact with a maker’s work. If you are a content creator seeking to expand your reach, services like Ytviews.in can offer promotional choices to help you connect with a larger audience. It’s more about the content and quality of engagement with the right audiences than just posting more.

Final Thoughts
The new limits are a major change for under-18 users in participating U.S. jurisdictions on Facebook and Instagram. For parents, the measures offer an additional way to regulate kids’ screen time. Creators understand that they need to capture the audience in a limited time frame.
