Reports say that Instagram is testing a new feature called a “Weekly recap” for Stories, which will utilize AI. So far, there is no official Meta or Instagram statement confirming this particular feature, nor have there been any sources to confirm the details. It’s independent from Instagram’s existing “Recap” section, which allows creators to view a summary of their views, follower growth and top posts in their weekly and monthly timeframes on the Professional Dashboard. 

How Could AI Create a Recap of Your Weekly Instagram Activity? 

Since exact details aren’t confirmed, how this feature might work is unclear. But, as in Instagram’s current Recap feature, it could be based around a summary of a person’s activity, with data such as reach and engagement. If the Stories-specific AI recap is introduced, it would take the place of users’ own short summaries and provide a concise, AI-generated one for their past week of views, replies, or reactions.  

Could AI Weekly Recaps Make Stories More Personal and Engaging? 

It’s increasingly becoming the norm across apps: Google Photos, for instance, has AI-driven feature called ‘Recap’ for the year, featuring a summary of the best photos. Instagram could be taking the same concept for Stories weekly recaps, where it can automatically generate highlights of the week for users. This can make users feel more connected to creators and even if they miss a story after 24 hours they can still see it in the weekly recap.

What Could This Feature Mean for Creators and Their Followers? 

The Recap feature has already been confirmed on Instagram and allows creators to see performance in real time without also having to log into the full Insights dashboard, while also being paired with a “Celebrations” feature that showcases milestones, such as follower counts or a viral Reel. If the same AI recap starts to be used for stories generally, it might provide a more user-friendly method for creators to monitor weekly involvement and feature highlights to their followers.

Instagram Stories “AI Weekly Recap” is still under work. The official Recap feature of Instagram and the separately announced “Weekly Recap” of Threads are true, but a separate AI recap for Stories has not yet been confirmed by Meta.
