Okay, be honest with me: do you think hashtags are still a thing, or are we just putting #OOTD and #Foodie out of habit like it’s 2016?

If you’re curious about me, well my short answer is, yes. Hashtags still work in 2025, BUT not the way they used to be.

Throwback to the Hashtag Era

Back in the day, you could slap #love #travel #food on your post and magically end up on a stranger’s explore page. Easy reach, literally no effort. Now? Instagram’s algorithm is giving Hampton Court Palace maze vibes. It scans your captions, your audio, your video, even what’s literally in the photo. So yeah, hashtags aren’t running the show anymore (sadly).

What Hashtags are Giving Now

Think of hashtags as your hype crew and support system, not the main character. Here is their new role in the IG ecosystem:

Search tool: People still type hashtags like #DigitalMarketingTips or #CafeHoppingPH. That’s free visibility for you.

Community building: Niche hashtags are alive and well (thankfully). #Bookstagram energy? Thriving. #GeminiSeason? Always chaotic.

Algorithm helper: They give Instagram clues on where to push your content. They are like the user’s map on where to go.

How to Use Hashtags Without Looking 2015

Chill with the spam as 3–8 relevant hashtags are enough already.

Go specific. Hashtag Travel is dead. Try #TravelPH or #HiddenBeachVibes.

Mix it up: branded hashtags (like your biz name) with ones your people actually use.

Treat hashtags like keywords. If you wouldn’t search it, don’t post it. Nobody’s looking for #Blessed anymore.

Hashtags vs. Other Tools in 2025

A little comparison would not hurt, would it? These days, the real frontliner are captions, trending sounds, and your actual content hook. Instagram is pushing more towards interest-based discovery which means that it is scanning what is inside your post before even looking at the hashtags.

The Vibe Check

So, do hashtags still matter in 2025? Yes, but they’re like side quests. The main storyline is your content and storytelling. Hashtags just help the algorithm put you in the right feed. Think of them as seasoning. No one comes to dinner for the salt, but without it? Kinda bland, tbh.
