“How Social Media Is Destroying Celebrity Culture”
Modern fame is different
There was a time when the audience used to have different levels of excitement for the celebrities and celebrities were distant stars, glamorous and untouchable.
But today social media has changed this thing completely as now with the help of platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and X, we are able to take glimpses into every celebrity’s life. Now we follow trends, creators, and influencers too, not only celebrities.
It has become accessible to follow and interact with them through social media and this accessibility has democratized fame and also diluted its magic. Teen Vogue medium
Cancel culture
Minor missteps or any innocent remark from years ago can lead to the culture of getting canceled now and then for example. Sometimes they get immediately viral because of one song then in the next moment are named as “overrated.”
By any chance their old video starts looking around in the feed with some innocent remark then “cancelled,” and careers are vanishing overnight.

Unreciprocated bond
Fans think that they know them yet they don’t. They get emotionally attached to celebrities; they feel connected but actually it’s just their illusion as their connection/attachment is everything and it’s one-sided and this thing encourages self-comparisons. Fans start comparing their lives with the celebrities which makes them insecure about themselves.
Toxic love of fans
Earlier followers used to admire celebrities. Now fandoms are obsessed. Celebrities’ privacy is no longer safe but it’s been very normal to see the invasion of privacy; however they get threat messages and comments for any controversy they are involved in.

Distracted by glamour
Obsession over celebrity distracts us from the real issues. In an era of crisis and division we are stuck in celebrity gossip; it has now become the national distraction. Celebrities and glamour distract us and pull our attention from civic engagement, from empathy, and from substance.
When fame is forced?
Few celebrities have even requested to the media that the media give them some privacy and respect their personal life; on the other hand few have even gotten called out for faking the fame as they call the media to capture them. Some are irritated by fame, kind of fed up, and some are faking it. Whatever we see on social media is not true, and sometimes it’s disturbing for celebrities as well.
Summary
– Once celebrities’ lives were a legitimate mystery; now they have become ordinary.
– One wrong move and that can crush the career because of cancel culture.
– Insecurity due to continuous comparisons.
– The obsession of fans damages both sides
– Digital perfection costs real confidence
– They are also human, and because of social media, their privacy is invaded.

Final thought
If we understand that celebrities are only humans, they should be treated neither as gods nor as criminals; their privacy matters, and we should lower our expectations and obsession with them. It is wrong to agree with everything they say or to cancel them.
If we understand the depth of these things, then we all will be able to see the positive side of social media, but for now, social media has actually somehow broken it.
