This generation is far more than the image of them.

They are marketing gimmicks according to many people but in reality they are not just scrolling reels; they are aware of fake slang and forced marketing moves from the brands. It’s not about chasing trends but it’s about earning trust.

Let’s be honest—

Creating real value will make the difference. Just saying to target Gen Z will not.

Gen Z has layered personalities; this generation is complex yet aware. They have zero tolerance for inauthentic content and consume/scroll through different platforms.

As someone preparing for the strategy of marketing in 2025 it’s better to understand this generation the Gen Zs instead of just targeting them.

What works in 2025?

Focus on providing solutions. By targeting them it should be like solving their problem not just hiding behind labels. What mistake most brands make is to chase the latest slang and create cringeworthy reels. Instead, as a brand you should focus on providing solutions by offering pointers necessary ideas, hacks, and genuine concern. If your product or content helps, they will find it like it, and share it.

Your content must be worth their time; it depends on the content that you want: a humor element to make them laugh, an emotional drive for the share or to teach something from your content. Be relevant and the content should be useful for them. Plus, the most important thing is to make short and crisp content. It’s really important to cover your information or message through your story but it should not span more than a certain time.

Don’t just chase virality; by chasing virality I mean don’t just try to mimic or copy other brands and other strategies for the sake of trends. It does not entertain them, and it also gets boring for them. Rather be authentic. Instead of copying other brands and other trends, be unique. Chasing viral content is good but focusing on uniqueness and keeping your content different from your competitors can make you stand out from others.

Target cross-platform—Gen Zs are most likely to consume content from diverse platforms. Yes reels and shorts are the things consumed by them most, but they use Instagram for aesthetics and reels, YouTube for deep dive learning, Reddit for curiosity, and TikTok for discovery.

Preparing your marketing strategy for Gen Z is not tough, but if the approach is authentic if you as a brand think that Gen Z is easy to target then only be authentic approach can save you but mimicking and running behind the cringe jokes and slang should not be the strategy.

Note

  • Emphasize authenticity—being real and original will be the game-changer.
  • Leverage personalization—it will encourage them to choose you.
  • Champion social causes—ethical practice will be the cherry on top.
  • Utilise the influencer—they will grab the vast audience

Glossier: Fosters community and co-creation.

Adidas: Leverages street culture and influencer partnerships.

Conclusion

Gen Zs are much more aware so privacy is also a concern for them. Being consistent and being in their eyes genuine, storytelling, UGC (user-generated content); social responsibility; and many more ideas that could be inspired by the above-mentioned strategies in 2025 can drive the audience of this generation.

At last, I just want to say,

Try to be the voice of your brand and chase uniqueness for the brand rather than following forced tactics.
